Scan Flow Process: Phone Position and Body Pose
We have made several improvements to the scanning process including upgrading the algorithm and the machine learning model behind the Spren app. What you can expect as a result: more precise results compared to DEXA, minimized scan-to-scan variation due to changes in the scanning parameters, and an improved A/G ratio.
If you've transitioned from the BETA app, you may notice changes in your results, which can be attributed to these enhancements. If you have any questions or come across any issues, our dedicated support team is ready to assist you.
Please be sure to follow the recommendations in order. This example shows how a female should scan, specific instructions are given for each sex in the app.
- Wear tight-fitting bike shorts (no boxers or shorts), for women a sports bra, no hats or shoes.
- Please wear the clothing recommended above.
- The camera needs to see the outline of your body and your abdominal region, so please make sure that your belly button is in full view. The top of your bike shorts (tight fitting) should be at your hips.
- We recommend placing your phone in the same location, standing in the same spot, and wearing the same outfit, and the same clothing each scan for the most accurate results.
- If you have long hair pull it into a low ponytail. This helps the camera access your natural height.
- Find a spot with natural light. Your light source should illuminate you from the front, to ensure even lighting with minimal to no shadows behind you.
- Set your phone on the ground. Rest it against a wall or solid object that doesn't wobble. Please do not have anyone hold your phone, it needs to be completely still. Again, unless you are traveling, we recommend taking your scan from the same spot every time for the most accurate results.
- Pose with your hands up, palms forward & feet shoulder-width apart. Squarely face the camera, with your hands up, palms forward, and your feet shoulder-width apart. Relax and breathe naturally.
- This is what it will look like when you set your phone on the floor and prop it upright. If it is pink, then you'll need to adjust the tilt of the phone, it will then turn green as in the second photo below.
- The app may instruct you to take a few steps backward. You need to make sure that your entire body from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet is in the frame.
- You're on the right track when you see the red or green skeleton bones aligned with your body.
- If any part of your body is green this means that it is in perfect position and you'll want to keep them there.
- If red, you must move your arms or legs slowly to different positions until they turn green.
- Try to bring your arms forward slightly rather than having them precisely in line with your head. Keep the 90-degree angle, but move them forward toward the camera a bit.
- Once all your "bones" are green, hold very still until the photo is taken.
- Once you've completed the front scan, you will then turn to the side. Step back towards the wall to make sure that your entire frame is once again in the frame. Make sure your palms are facing forward.
- Once your scan is complete, the analysis will then begin. Please review your photos to make sure all of the above conditions have been met. If something happened i.e. family pet entered the photo, then you can simply rescan and start over.
- If you are having any difficulties with the scanning process, please reach out to our team at getsupport@spren.com and we'll be happy to help you troubleshoot any issues that may have come up for you.
